Free Bubble Chart Maker — Plot Three Variables, Download Instantly

A bubble chart puts three variables on one picture: two set the position, the third sets the size. Reach for it when your table has a natural "how big" column — revenue vs. margin with units sold, or spend vs. conversions with audience size. Bubble size is drawn by area, not diameter, so a value twice as large really does look twice as big.

How it works

  1. Paste a table whose first column names each item and whose next two columns are numbers (X and Y).
  2. Add a third numeric column and it becomes the bubble size — leave it out and every bubble is the same size.
  3. Check the axis labels: they are taken from your column headers.
  4. Download a 2× PNG for a slide, or the .xlsx to keep editing the numbers in Excel or WPS.

Frequently asked questions

How many columns do I need for a bubble chart?

Three numeric columns: the first two set X and Y, the third sets the size. Two columns also work — you get evenly sized bubbles, which is just a scatter plot.

Why do bubbles look bigger than the numbers suggest?

We scale by area, which is the honest way to do it: a value four times larger gets a bubble four times the area. That is why the diameter only doubles.

Can I download the bubble chart as an Excel file?

Yes. The .xlsx download contains a native Excel bubble chart plus your original data, so you can change a number and the chart updates.
